Six Of The Best Places To Take Kids On Rainy Days

You wake up and look out the window to see rain pouring down. Meanwhile, the kids are waking up and are full of energy to burn! What to do? The answer is easy. We’ve found the best places to take kids on rainy days which are indoors and full of fun for the whole family.

1. Trampoline Parks

Rather than have the kids jumping madly on the couch and beds, have them jump for hours at these cool trampoline parks! One of our favourites in Sydney is Sky Zone Trampoline Park- where kids and families of ALL ages can leap, bounce, jump, climb and flip til their heart’s content. Here you can bounce high to score slam dunks at Sky Slam, jump into foam pits, climb a wobbly ladder or scale one of four creative climbing walls! We also recommend Boing Central where kids will surely be bouncing off the walls with over 80 interconnected trampolines!

2. Powerhouse Museum

The Powerhouse Museum is an extremely interactive, family-friendly museum, boasting FREE entry for kids under 16 years of age! The free Wiggles Exhibition has been newly renovated, featuring an interactive Big Red Car that you can take a ride in as well as memorabilia from the new cast including Emma’s ballet slippers. At Experimentations, YOU become the scientist, engineer, thinker, artist and inventor. Kids can get their hands going at the Tinkering Zone, get zapped in an electric chair, play with marvellous machines and play with sound and light waves.

3. Perfect Playtowns

At Wannabees Family Play Town, kids will enter an epic miniature city where they can be anything they want to be! There is a police and fire station, beauty salon, post office, grocery store and so much more, where children can dress up, ride mini cars, and use their imaginations like never before. For a play centre minus the eye-assaulting primary colours and terrible coffee inherent in typical Sydney play centres, head to Nubo- a white and blue dream-like play space in Alexandria. With a metal super slide, blue ball pit and instrumental nursery rhymes playing in the background, this is an indoor play experience that is enjoyable for mums, too.

4. The Museum of Contemporary Art

When should you start exposing your children to the arts? The answer is NOW! The MCA offers a huge range of family-friendly gallery experiences for kids including Art Baby for mums and bubs, the Bella Extension Program for families with special needs and the new exhibition The National 2017: New Australian Art including a FREE The National Family Activity Trail which encourages the children to engage with and enjoy the works. Children under 16 years enter FREE!

5. Australian National Maritime Museum

When you opt for the “Free Galleries” ticket when visiting the Maritime Museum, you can get entry into the museum’s permanent galleries, under 5s play zone Mini Mariners Play, the Sea Science Pontoon and Bailey’s ‘Dogs and Cats All At Sea’, making this an extremely good-value family day out! This Winter 2017, check out the Escape from Pompeii exhibition- tie up your toga and travel back in time to learn all about the Roman Empire!

6. Australian Museum

The Australian Museum is all about nature, culture and discovery- the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon. They have a great program for (especially for under 5s!) including getting hands-on at Kidspace, Scientist for a Day where you can go behind the scenes, the Search and Discover Centre where kids can learn from the experts, the Tiny Tots program (for 9mths-3-year-olds) and the Mini Explorers program (kids aged 3-5 years).
