Wendy Whiteley’s Gardens is one of the best places in Sydney for a family picnic. It’s quirky and quiet with something around every corner to delight children and adults alike.

While there is no play equipment on offer here, this is a magical place and truly one of Sydney’s hidden treasures. The surprisingly large garden is lush and green with tree ferns, herbs, flowers, palm and fig trees and has amazing harbour views. It is hard to believe that in the 90's, this was a derelict rubbish heap, it is now a real oasis and possibly the best picnic spot in Sydney. There are picnic tables scattered throughout the garden and all kinds of quirky statues and random objects (like a rusty old wheelbarrow and an old scooter) add charm to this living work of art.

It is a great place for kids of all ages to play and dream as Wendy herself says: “Children love this garden. It sparks their imagination and they make up games and find spiders and fairies and things.” A perfect destination for the whole family. Highly recommended.

Access: Enter the gardens via Clark Park in Lavender Bay, North Shore
