Justice & Police Museum

Journey through Sydney’s criminal past with a visit to The Justice & Police Museum.

For all those kids who dream of being a policeman or woman when they grow up, there is much to enjoy in this atmospheric, historical building: a recreated 1890s police charge room, a dark and chilling remand cell, and a restored Court of Petty Sessions with its notorious communal dock. Offering interactive and immersive activities – free after museum entry – visitors can pose for a mug shot, have their fingerprints taken or plead their innocence to a jury in a fun, theatrical experience.

Ellaslist Opinion: This is a perfect outing on a rainy or sweltering hot day as the building oozes with a dark atmosphere and spooky aura. With the introduction of new activities, the museum now caters to a younger audience, as well as offering “adult only” talks and tours. However pram access is limited, there is minimal room for active toddlers to run around, and some exhibits may not be suitable for young children.

Facilities: The museum does not have baby change facilities and stroller access is limited. There is a coffee cart on site and plenty of picnic spots nearby in the Botanic gardens and around Circular Quay.
