Ah, nothing says warm weather in Sydney like the full bloom of purple jacaranda trees. For six or so weeks the streets become filled with beautiful purple flowers gently falling on the footpaths like purple rain..... it's just stunning. 

I wish that simply enjoying nature's gift was enough, but we know you want to show it off to your friends via a social media post.... go on admit it, you've snapped a jacaranda or two in your time! So, to make your Instagram feed really stand out with lilac tones mixed with lo-fi filters and purple heart emojis, here are the best spots to go in Sydney.... just be aware of oncoming traffic! 

 

In The City

What better place to start looking than at the Royal Botanic Gardens, they have jacaranda trees dating back to the 1850s. And you get bonus points for snapping the Harbour Bridge in your shot! You can also see the trees in bloom as you walk through Circular Quay and The Rocks.

 

North Shore

So popular are the jacarandas here that the Hunters Hills Trust organises walking tours through the suburb's best streets. Grab your selfie stick and head to McDougall Street in Kirribilli - one of the most beautiful streets in Sydney with canopies of jacaranda trees. If it's full of tourists doing the same then head to areas such as Lavender Bay, Greenwich, Waverton, Longueville and Wollstonecraft which may be a little quieter.

 

Eastern Suburbs

Paddington, Woollahra and Double Bay all have purple trees lining the streets. Start on Oxford Street and make your way up to Five Ways in Paddington then meander down to Woollahra and Double Bay.

Inner West

Possibly less crowded (on weekends especially) and no chance of oncoming traffic is the University of Sydney which has jacaranda trees all over campus. Nearby suburbs of Glebe, Camperdown and Erskineville are also worth taking a look at.

Outside Of Sydney

According to Destination NSW, Grafton on the north coast is at the top of the list, with their annual Jacaranda Festival from October 28 to November 5. Even though you've missed it, the trees are still sprouting their wonderful leaves.

Please Be Careful! 

This year has seen an influx in the number of people risking their life as they try to frame the perfect social media shot (sorry!) As a result, locals and councils are not happy. North Sydney Council released a statement saying they were aware of the issue and were working closely with the relevant authorities to find a solution, hinting that perhaps a jacaranda festival would be a way to enjoy the trees without the risks. Here's hoping for next year!
