Six of the Best Easter Activities for Kids in Melbourne

Rain, hail or shine, Melbourne is always packed with egg-cellent activities for kids over the Easter period – and there’s always bucket loads of chocolate involved. Whether kids are after the rush of carnival rides, or want to hunt for eggs with the rest of Melbourne’s chocoholics, this city has it all. Here are six exciting events for kids over the Easter holiday.
1. Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt and Family Picnic
The Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt and Family Picnic has been running for years and continues to draw hundreds of families every year for big-time fun and loads of chocolate. But this is an event more important than treats because it raises money every year for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, providing much needed support to kids at families at the hospital.
Kids between the ages of three and 12 years are invited to take part in the hunts, of which there are many throughout the day. There is also other entertainment to enjoy: rides, shows, and of course the beautiful Werribee Park itself.

2. The Big Goose Easter Scramble
An hour’s drive out of central Melbourne you will arrive on the glorious Mornington Peninsula, where one of the area’s favourite animal parks hosts an annual Easter hunt not to be missed.
At The Big Goose Easter Scramble, the challenge is to hunt like mad to collect the most amount of eggs before the Eater Bunny yells, ‘stop!’ The child with the most eggs wins a great prize. And don’t worry, every child gets to keep their bag of eggs too.
After the chocolate-fest, there are lots of fluffy, feathery and slithery friends to visit, so allow plenty of time to see all that The Big Goose has to offer – including the massive jumping pillow and a few cheeky camels.

3. The Melbourne Easter Show
Another annual favourite for families, The Melbourne Easter Show is always packed with amusements and entertainment to enjoy all day and well into the evening across the Easter holidays.
Incredibly, this show, which is essentially a miniature Royal Melbourne Show, costs nothing to attend, so even if it’s just to have a walk around and soak up the Easter atmosphere, it won’t cost you a thing.
Show bags, rides and performers are plentiful here; there are even fireworks, live music and plenty of age-appropriate events for kids. Oh, and Easter Bunny himself always pops in for cuddles.

4. Bendigo Easter Festival
The Bendigo Easter Festival is one of the country’s longest standing community and family-focused events, celebrating our nation’s massive cultural diversity.
The Bendigo Chinese Association works in conjunction with a number of other organisations, local businesses and community groups to put together parades, shows, markets, children’s activities – and of course Easter egg hunts across the four days of Easter.
Check out the schedule of events to organise your day. The Gala Parade is a spectacle not to be missed!

5. Giant Easter Egg Hunt
So they want chocolate by the bucket load? Then this is the place! The Giant Easter Egg Hunt takes place in Chirnside Park and is hosted by the Life Ministry Church.
The egg hunts are divides into different age groups, so if you’ve got toddlers you don’t have to worry about the stampede of older, chocolate-crazed children.
This is a fun-filled day of chocolate gathering, face painting, inflatable jumps (bouncy castles and slides) and age-appropriate activities for pre-school and school-age kids. Snacks and drinks, including a sausage sizzle can be enjoyed here, so bring a picnic rug and plan to spend a good part of the day.

6. Kids’ Day Out – CPR Challenge
This important event, run by KidzAid Australia supports and raises funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. At this event, people of all ages learn the fundamentals of CPR, as demonstrated by healthcare professionals across various areas of medicine.
The ‘challenge’ of this event is to enter the designated area and learn CPR in just 30 minutes. Of course, there are also various activities and amusements for kids to enjoy along the way.
The CPR Kidz Challenge aims to educate people of all ages in the life saving methods of CPR. The event runs on Good Friday from 10am – 6pm.
