ellaslist discovers North Curl Curl Beach

We have made it our families mission this summer to explore new beaches and this weekend we tried North Curl Curl. We had such a great experience that I am worried our explorations may have peaked too early as North Curl Curl will be hard to beat! Here is why we loved our morning.

1. Holiday Feel

From Mid Curl Curl to North Curl there is nothing but the beach and a surf club. No shops, cars, high rises or traffic. As a result, when we walked onto the beach we immediately felt like we were on holidays up on the coast. It has a perfectly relaxed Australian summer vibe.

2. Beautiful Swimming

This is a patrolled beach with a beautiful and relatively secluded area for swimming between the flags at the end of the beach. The flags are generally located directly in front of a sandstone wall which even creates shade in the afternoon. There is an active surf life saving club on the beach so there were lots of life guards patrolling both the beach and the water – great for a morning where a rip was present at the beach.

3. Parking

This may be an odd one to include in six of the best but it factors highly into my decision about which beach to go to. We arrived at 9.30 to Mid Curl Curl and there was lots of parking available. There was even some spots still available at 12.30 when we left! It still seems incredible to me several days later.

4. Rock Climbing and Crab Hunting

There is an excellent section of rock pools and formations which are some of the best I have seen for rock climbing and rock pool exploration. We spent a long time looking for crabs in crevices.

5. Ocean Pool

At the end of the rocks there is a fabulous ocean pool – perfect for a few laps or simply a spot to sit and swim or to watch the great ocean.

6. Good for a Walk

By Sydney standards Curl Curl is a long beach with beautiful sandstone coloured sand. Perfect for a long slow walk with the kids.

I’m Sarah. A Mum of two over-active boys and a self-confessed Sydney tragic. I love living
in, exploring, discovering and experiencing all Sydney has to offer. Having lived in Sydney most of my life I have loved exploring it as a grown up but now as a Mum I’m relishing re-discovering my passion for Sydney through the eyes of my boys. I love planning and executing our regular family outings to explore new things in Sydney. As a working Mum, it is a great way for our family to stay connected and have fun together. I would love to spend all my time travelling the world but given I live in the real world of mortgages and jobs we see exploring Sydney as tourists as the next best thing.
