All year round, every weekend – be it a Saturday or Sunday – Sydney buzzes with some gems for the family with its vibrant markets. Strolling through the markets is always a great way to spend the morning with family. The markets are full of interesting sights, smells and tastes – the perfect sensory experience for the kids. Plus the hustle and bustle of the crowd is exciting for even the curious toddler. Even if you’re not there to shop, find a place to toss a picnic blanket and enjoy a freshly squeezed lemonade or a hot gozleme while soaking up the atmosphere.

Carriageworks Farmers Market

The Carriageworks Farmers Market is an award-winning authentic farmer’s market which has been a hit among Sydney families for its refreshing, easy-going vibe. We love that its undercover with a wide space for the ankle biters to run around – even on a rainy Saturday! The market has a fantastic urban vibe for families to just hang out and meet for coffee. Of course the fresh produce, pastries and artisan-made snacks are a bonus!

 

EQ Village Markets

WHERE The Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park
WHEN Every Wednesday and Saturday 8am to 3pm
The EQ Village Market is a great place to visit with kids. The markets themselves are under cover and jumping castles and other entertainment for children is always available. After grabbing some fresh produce and chowing down on a crepe, you can visit the nearby playground or paint some pottery with the kids at one of the stores surrounding the markets.

 

 

Orange Grove Farmers Market

The Orange Grove Farmers Markets are one of our favourite markets in Sydney. The crowd is friendly, there’s a great little playground, the produce is amazing, the breakfast rolls and coffee are to die for and best of all, there are pony rides for the kids! This is one shopping trip the kids actually look forward to. If you live in the area or even if you don’t, you are sure to run into a family you know – it’s just that kind of place! There is lots of grass to lay a picnic blanket on or to just let the kids run wild.

 

 

Marrickville Organic Food & Farmers Markets

The Marrickville Organic Food & Farmers Markets is your quintessential family-friendly market with a bohemian vibe. We love the jumping castles, pony rides, babycinos, face-painting and eco-friendly baby food among others. There’s just something about its great location in the grounds of Addison Road Community Centre, within proximity of Reverse Garbage and The Bower that makes it a gem for a productive week ahead. Check off your your grocery list and be prepared to go home with an armful of craft supplies to entertain the kids!

 

 

Ramsgate Organic Foodies Market

The Ramsgate Organic Foodies Market favourite among ellaslist readers. An award-winning organic farmer’s market located at a public school grounds a short stroll away from Ramsgate beach, parents love how there’s plenty of room to manoeuvre the pram, room for the kids to run around, jump on air-filled castles until they’re spent! And of course, the delicious fresh produce and artisan delights to whet any foodie’s appetites is a big bonus. We reckon this is a great place for families to kick back on a Saturday since the beach is so close.

 

 

Lorien Novalis Markets

Lorien Novalis Markets is part of the Rudolph Steiner school, which means that there is a huge focus on the kids – and it shows.It has a gorgeous warm, friendly atmosphere, attracting locals and Sydneysiders out for a weekend drive. There’s heaps of activities for children as the school’s classes take the opportunity to raise funds for their trips. Activities like face painting, modelling with beeswax, music and more will keep the kids busy.

 

 

With over 45 stalls, there’s a diverse range of quality products including locally made honey, organic produce, jewellery, home crafts and giftware, natural beauty products, exquisite felt and silk, plants and a unique array of global goods. It’s also a great spot to catch up with friends and family – enjoy tea, coffee, chai and cakes, or lunch at the Rainbow Café while being entertained by local musicians and performers throughout the day.
