If you're planning a night out with the girls but want to make it a bit different to your usual dinner, here's a handful of events and hot spots worth checking out. There's something for every mum here.

1. Chicks at the Flicks

Fifty Shades fans, you won't want to miss this advanced screening of Fifty Shades Freed, the third and final chapter of the Fifty Shades phenomenon. Event Cinemas' first Chicks at the Flicks for 2018 on February 7 Sydney-wide, this isn't your your average night at the movies. Arrive at 6pm so you can catch up with your girlfriends over champagne before the movie's 7pm start. Each ticket comes with a complementary goodie bag with a mix of awesome products from the event's sponsors - Cadbury and Yellowglen! Tickets start at $28, or for a larger than life-size 50 Shades experience, get the VMAX tickets for $32. If you're keen to lay back and have champas and desserts delivered to your seat, why not splurge on Gold Class tix? They start at 70 bucks a head.

2. Mini Golf, Cocktails and Karaoke

Mini golf meets cocktail bar meets karaoke bar at the quirky Holey Moley in Newtown, with another branch popping up under the Coca Cola sign in King's Cross later this year. Rehydrate and refuel at the Caddyshack, or have drinks delivered to your karaoke room...our kind of mini golf! With prices starting at $16.50 per person for nine holes, this is a mums night out that won't break the budget. Read our recent review on Holey Moley here

3. Cheese and Wine Tasting

If you feel like an evening that's a bit more civilised, cheese and wine tasting it is. Formaggi Ocello in Surry Hills comes highly recommended, and they do Cheese & Wine nights on several Wednesday evenings each month. For $90 a head, this includes appetisers and sparkling wine to start, followed by a tasting of six wines and six artisan and farmhouse cheeses, with a little education on these from the Sommelier. Click here for more details.

Another one to check out: GPO Cheese + Wine Room in Martin Place, where you can get a Cheese Fondu for Two, starting at $48.50, with add-on recommended wine pairings. This comes as a complete meal with cured meats, grilled prawns, lavosh and all the rest of it, with vegetarian options also available. We've also got our eyes on the Dark Chocolate Fondu board...click here for more info.

4. Moonlight Cinema

Instead of wasting a balmy summer evening indoors, why not pack a picnic and head to Centennial Park's open-air cinema with the girls? Step back in time with Fan Favourites like Back to the Future, Dirty Dancing or Breakfast at Tiffany's, or check out the hottest new flicks like I, Tonya with Margot Robbie. Tickets for the retro films start at $13,  and the others start at $19. We reckon it's worth getting Connoisseur Lounge tickets ($30) so that you're guaranteed your own Bean Bed and a prime seating spot. Keen to put your feet up and get some wait service? Go with the Gold Grass tickets, $35 each. It's BYO here, but a food truck and bar will also be supplying the goods. The Moonlight Cinema is on until the end of March, so you've got plenty time to organise a girls night in advance.

5. Gin on the Lawn at Chiswick

If you're after a midweek catchup with the girls, you've got until the 7th of Feb to check out this free-entry Wednesday evening popup on Chiswick's lush lawn. Having joined forces with Bombay Sapphire, Chiswick are serving $10 G&Ts and complimentary canapes from 5.30-7.30pm, with live acoustic music adding to the super chilled vibe. All the details here. 6. Mariah Carey at Qudos Bank Arena

One for the diary if you're a Mariah fan, she'll be heading downunder in October for her upcoming Aussie tour. Get a group of girls together and sing your hearts at her Sydney show on Friday night October 12...we've got Always Be My Baby playing on repeat at ellaslist HQ in the leadup!
